Mãe de Santo
A Mãe de Santo, often called a priestess, is a spiritual leader in Candomblé and other Afro-Brazilian religious traditions. She serves as a guide, healer, and custodian of sacred rituals, songs, and traditions. The Mãe de Santo communicates with orishas (deities), conducting ceremonies to honor them, seek their guidance, and address community needs. She also teaches initiates and maintains the spiritual integrity of the terreiro (religious temple). Her role combines spiritual authority with cultural leadership, fostering community cohesion and preserving ancestral practices.
