Lymphocytic Thyroiditis
Lymphocytic thyroiditis, also known as Hashimoto's thyroiditis, is an autoimmune condition where the immune system mistakenly attacks the thyroid gland—an important gland in the neck that regulates hormones related to metabolism. This attack causes inflammation and gradual destruction of the thyroid tissue, often leading to an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism). People may experience symptoms like fatigue, weight gain, and depression. It is a common condition, especially in women, and is usually diagnosed through blood tests showing antibody levels and thyroid function. Treatment typically involves hormone replacement therapy to normalize thyroid hormone levels.
