LVAD weaning
LVAD weaning is the careful process of gradually reducing a left ventricular assist device's support as a patient's heart shows signs of recovery. The goal is to determine if the heart can function well enough on its own without the device. Doctors monitor heart function through tests and clinical signs, slowly decreasing device support while ensuring the patient remains stable. If the heart maintains adequate activity, the LVAD may eventually be removed. Weaning requires close supervision to prevent complications and confirm that the heart can sustain adequate blood flow independently.
