LUX-ZEPLIN Experiment

The LUX-ZEPLIN (LZ) experiment is a scientific project designed to detect dark matter, an unseen substance that makes up most of the universe’s mass. It uses a large tank filled with ultra-pure liquid xenon, which can glow faintly when particles pass through. Sensitive detectors look for tiny signals created by potential interactions between dark matter particles, called WIMPs, and xenon atoms. By observing these rare events, scientists hope to understand dark matter’s properties and its role in the universe’s structure. The LZ experiment aims to shed light on one of the biggest mysteries in modern physics.
