luteal phase deficiency
Luteal phase deficiency occurs when the second half of the menstrual cycle (after ovulation) doesn't produce enough progesterone, a hormone necessary to support a fertilized egg and maintain early pregnancy. This can lead to difficulties conceiving or early pregnancies ending in miscarriage. Usually, after ovulation, the body should produce enough progesterone to prepare the uterine lining for implantation. If it doesn't, the lining may not be receptive, making implantation less likely or causing early pregnancy loss. Treatment often involves supplementing progesterone to support the luteal phase and improve chances of pregnancy.
