Lung ultrasound (LUS) is a non-invasive imaging technique that uses high-frequency sound waves to produce real-time images of the lungs and chest wall. It helps doctors assess lung health by detecting issues like fluid buildup, pneumonia, or collapsed lung without exposure to radiation. During the procedure, a small probe is placed on the chest, sending sound waves that bounce back to create pictures of lung surfaces and surrounding tissues. LUS is quick, safe, and useful for diagnosis and monitoring, especially in critically ill patients or those with respiratory problems.
