Lung transplants

A lung transplant involves replacing damaged or diseased lungs with healthy lungs from a donor. It is typically considered when lung conditions, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or pulmonary fibrosis, severely impair breathing and other treatments have failed. The procedure requires careful matching of donors and recipients to reduce rejection risks. After surgery, recipients need lifelong medication to prevent their body from rejecting the new lungs and must attend regular medical follow-ups. Transplants can significantly improve quality of life and breathing capacity for suitable candidates with advanced lung disease.
