Lung resection

Lung resection is a surgical procedure that involves removing part or all of a lung to treat conditions like cancer, infections, or damaged tissue. The surgeon may remove a small portion (a wedge), a larger section (segmentectomy or lobectomy), or the entire lung (pneumonectomy). The goal is to eliminate diseased tissue while preserving healthy lung function. The procedure can be performed using traditional open surgery or minimally invasive techniques like thoracoscopy. Recovery varies but typically includes rest, breathing exercises, and monitoring for complications. Lung resection aims to improve health outcomes and, in some cases, cure lung disease.
