Lugdunum

Lugdunum was the ancient Roman name for the city now known as Lyon, France. Established around 43 BC, it became an important regional center due to its strategic location at the confluence of the Rhône and Saône rivers. Lugdunum served as a major administrative, commercial, and military hub in Roman Gaul, with impressive architecture, roads, and a vibrant population. Its significance declined after the fall of the Roman Empire, but the city’s historical roots remain evident today through archaeological sites and its role in French history.
