Lucius Cary

Lucius Cary, the 2nd Viscount Falkland (1610–1643), was an English politician and nobleman known for his thoughtful opposition to the English Civil War. Educated at Oxford, he was a member of Parliament and later a diplomat. Cary advocated for peaceful negotiations and moderation amid political tensions. He also served as Lord Deputy of Ireland briefly. Tragically, he died during the war at age 33. His writings reflect a keen interest in politics, religion, and human nature, making him a notable figure for his intellectual approach and efforts toward national reconciliation.
