Lucayan
The Lucayans were a group of indigenous people who lived in the Bahamas before Europeans arrived. They are part of the larger Arawakan language family and were skilled navigators and fishermen, thriving in the islands for centuries. The Lucayans had rich cultural traditions, including pottery, jewelry, and storytelling. Their population was greatly affected by European contact in the late 15th and early 16th centuries, especially through disease and slavery, leading to their decline. Today, they are remembered as the original inhabitants of the Bahamas, with some cultural influences still evident in the region.
