Lt. Gen. John W. Vessey Jr.

Lieutenant General John W. Vessey Jr. was a high-ranking U.S. military officer and diplomat who served as the Army Chief of Staff from 1969 to 1972. He played key roles in overseeing troop movements during the Vietnam War and later became the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the nation’s top military advisor, from 1982 to 1985. Vessey was known for his leadership, strategic expertise, and commitment to national security. After retiring, he also served as U.S. Ambassador to South Korea, contributing to diplomatic efforts in East Asia.
