Loyalist paramilitaries

Loyalist paramilitaries are armed groups in Northern Ireland that support remaining part of the United Kingdom. They emerged during the Troubles, a conflict from the late 1960s to the 1990s, opposing Irish republican groups seeking unification with Ireland. These groups used violence, such as bombings and shootings, to promote their political goals and protect unionist communities. Although many have disbanded or reduced activity, their legacy persists in ongoing tensions and occasional violence. Their actions are considered illegal and have deeply affected Northern Ireland's social and political landscape.
