Lowndes County Freedom Organization

The Lowndes County Freedom Organization was a political party formed in 1965 in Alabama during the Civil Rights Movement. It was created by Black activists to empower African Americans to vote and advocate for their rights, especially when the major parties largely ignored or suppressed Black voters. The party used a black panther as its symbol, emphasizing strength and resilience. Although it was short-lived, the organization helped inspire future Black political activism and contributed to increasing representation and political awareness among African Americans in the South.
