Lower Manhattan Development Corporation
The Lower Manhattan Development Corporation (LMDC) is a government organization established after the September 11, 2001 attacks, to help rebuild and revitalize Lower Manhattan. Its primary role was to coordinate efforts for restoring infrastructure, creating memorials, and fostering economic recovery in the devastated area. The LMDC worked with community leaders, developers, and federal agencies to plan and fund projects that aimed to transform the neighborhood into a safer, more vibrant place. It operated until its main goals were achieved, after which its responsibilities shifted to other agencies involved in ongoing development and recovery efforts.
