Lovebug
A lovebug, also known as Plecia nearctica, is a type of flying insect common in the southern United States. They are black with red or orange markings and are most noticeable during late spring and early summer when they emerge in swarms. Lovebugs often appear in large numbers and are attracted to light, vehicles, and certain plants. They are harmless to humans but can be a nuisance by sticking to windshields and causing minor vehicle damage due to their acidic bodies. Despite their name, lovebugs don't bite or sting; their name derives from their mating behavior, where pairs stay attached during flight.
