Louis XVII (son)

Louis XVII was the son of King Louis XVI of France and Queen Marie Antoinette. Born in 1785, he became a symbol of the monarchy’s downfall during the French Revolution. After his father was executed in 1793, Louis was imprisoned and falsely proclaimed king by royalists, though he was never officially crowned. He spent much of his childhood in captivity and died in 1795 at age 10 from illness. Some believed he survived and lived secretly, but historically, Louis XVII’s death marked the end of the direct royal line from his family during that turbulent period.
