Louis Leplée

Louis Leplée was a French nightclub owner and impresario in the early 20th century, best known for discovering and promoting the young singer Edith Piaf. His cabaret in Paris, Le Gerny, became famous for showcasing jazz and chanson performances. Leplée played a significant role in launching Piaf’s career and shaping her rise to stardom. Tragically, he was murdered in 1936 under circumstances that remain partly unclear, an event that attracted public attention and marked a turning point in Piaf’s life. His contribution to Paris’s cultural scene and support of emerging artists made him a notable figure in French entertainment history.
