Lotus-Eaters
The Lotus-Eaters are mythological beings from Homer's "Odyssey." They live on a mysterious island where they consume the narcotic lotus flower, which induces a state of blissful apathy and forgetfulness of home and purpose. Odysseus’s men eat the lotus and lose their desire to continue their journey, preferring to stay in the pleasurable, indifferent state. The term "Lotus-Eaters" is often used metaphorically to describe people who indulge in pleasurable, distracting, or escapist pursuits to the point of neglecting responsibilities or reality.
