Lost Colony
The Lost Colony refers to the mysterious disappearance of around 115 English settlers who established a settlement called Roanoke in present-day North Carolina in 1587. When a supply ship returned in 1590, the settlers had vanished without clear explanation. The only clue was the word "CROATOAN" carved into a post. Historians believe they may have relocated, been attacked, or died from hardship, but the exact fate remains unknown. The event is considered America's first known attempt at colonization and has intrigued scholars and the public for centuries.
