Los Chicago Boys
Los Chicago Boys were a group of economists from Chile who studied at the University of Chicago in the 1970s and 1980s. They strongly believed in free-market principles, advocating for reduced government intervention, privatization of state-owned companies, and open trade. Under General Augusto Pinochet’s dictatorship, they helped implement policies aimed at economic liberalization and stability, which transformed Chile's economy from a heavily controlled system to a more market-oriented one. While their approach led to economic growth, it also resulted in social challenges and inequality, making their legacy both influential and debated.
