Lord Selkirk
Thomas Douglas, 5th Earl of Selkirk, was a Scottish nobleman and philanthropist in the early 19th century known for promoting Scottish immigration to Canada. He believed in helping impoverished Scottish tenants by establishing colonies there, notably founding Red River Colony (present-day Winnipeg). His efforts aimed to improve lives and foster settlement in North America, contributing to Canada's development. Selkirk’s initiatives were also tied to ideas of social reform and humanitarian aid, making him an influential figure in both Scottish and Canadian history.
