Lord Durham
Lord Durham, also known as John George Lambton, was a British politician and reformer in the 19th century. He is best known for his role in investigating the causes of unrest in Canada during the 1830s. His report, called the Durham Report, recommended that Canada be united into one colony to improve governance and suggested responsible government—meaning colonies should have their own elected leaders. These ideas helped shape Canada's move toward self-governance and independence from Britain, making him an influential figure in Canadian history and constitutional development.
