Lok Adalats
Lok Adalats are informal, community-based forums in India designed to resolve disputes amicably and efficiently. They function under the legal framework to facilitate settlement of civil, matrimonial, and other cases without the need for lengthy court processes. Presided over by a legal expert called a Member of the Legal Services Authority, Lok Adalats encourage parties to negotiate and reach mutually acceptable agreements. The decisions, known as "awards," are binding and final, effectively reducing the burden on courts and promoting accessible, cost-effective justice. They aim to resolve disputes quickly while preserving relationships and social harmony.
