Logwood

Logwood is a tropical tree native to Central America, known for producing a dark purple-black dye called hematoxylin. Historically, it was valued in the textile industry for coloring fabrics, especially in the production of textiles like wool and silk. The dye comes from the heartwood of the tree, which contains compounds that, when processed, create vibrant, long-lasting colors. Aside from its use in textiles, logwood has also been used in histology for staining biological tissues in scientific research. Its rich coloration and diverse applications have made it an important plant both commercially and historically.
