Logothete
A Logothete was an official in the Byzantine Empire, akin to a minister or secretary, responsible for various administrative tasks. The term originally referred to a head of a particular department, such as finance or justice, during the Byzantine period. Logothetes managed bureaucratic functions, made decisions on public affairs, and reported directly to the emperor. Their roles were crucial in maintaining the empire's governance and administration, reflecting the complexity and sophistication of Byzantine governmental structure. The title has its roots in Greek, where it means "one who accounts" or "one who computes."
