Local Emergency Planning Committees (LEPCs)
Local Emergency Planning Committees (LEPCs) are community groups formed to prepare for and respond to emergencies, particularly those involving hazardous materials. Composed of local officials, emergency responders, and community representatives, LEPCs develop plans to protect public health and safety during incidents. They assess risks, coordinate training, and conduct drills to ensure effective response strategies. LEPCs also work to inform the community about potential hazards and safety measures, fostering collaboration among various stakeholders to enhance overall emergency preparedness and resilience in the face of disasters or chemical spills.
