LMP1
LMP1 (Latent Membrane Protein 1) is a protein produced by the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), which is linked to certain cancers like nasopharyngeal carcinoma and some lymphomas. It acts as an oncoprotein, meaning it can promote the growth and survival of tumor cells. LMP1 mimics a nerve or immune receptor, activating signaling pathways that lead to cell proliferation and immune evasion. Its presence helps the virus persist in the body and contributes to the development of cancer by disrupting normal cell regulation and immune responses.
