Livestock Guardian Dogs
Livestock Guardian Dogs (LGDs) are specialized dogs trained to protect farm animals like sheep, goats, or cattle from predators such as wolves, coyotes, and bears. They are usually large, calm, and observant, forming strong bonds with their flock. LGDs are not herders; instead, they stay close to the animals, patrolling the area silently and signaling or defending when threats appear. Their presence naturally discourages predators, reducing the need for physical intervention or fencing. These dogs have been used for centuries and are valued for their independence, loyalty, and non-aggressive approach to safeguarding livestock.
