Littoral zones

The littoral zone is the area near a shoreline where sunlight reaches the bottom, allowing plants and algae to grow. It stretches from the shoreline to where sunlight no longer penetrates the water deeply, typically across the shallow parts of a lake, sea, or ocean. This zone is rich in life because it provides a habitat for many fish, aquatic plants, and invertebrates. It plays a key role in the ecosystem, supporting biodiversity and serving as a vital area for breeding and feeding for many aquatic species.
