Littoral Combat

Littoral combat refers to military operations conducted near shorelines, in coastal areas, and in shallow waters. This environment presents unique challenges due to proximity to land, where land and sea forces often engage. Because of this, littoral combat forces—like ships, submarines, and special operations units—need to be specially equipped and highly adaptable to deal with threats like small boats, mines, and shore-based defenses. The goal is to ensure naval dominance and protect maritime interests close to land, often involving cooperative efforts between different branches of the military, as well as alliances with local forces.
