Literacy Instruction Models
Literacy instruction models are approaches used by teachers to help students learn to read and write effectively. They include methods like phonics, which emphasizes sound-letter relationships; whole language, focusing on understanding meaning through exposure to complete texts; balanced literacy, combining both approaches; and guided reading, providing targeted support during reading practice. These models guide how reading is taught, aiming to improve students’ ability to decode words, comprehend texts, and develop a lifelong love of reading. Different models may be used together or adapted based on student needs and educational goals.
