liquid-based cytology (LBC)
Liquid-based cytology (LBC) is a medical testing method used to examine cells from the body, often for detecting diseases like cancer. Instead of scraping cells directly onto a slide, a sample is collected and then washed into a liquid preservative. This process helps produce clearer, more uniform cell samples, making detection more accurate. LBC is commonly used in cervical cancer screening (Pap tests) but can also apply to other areas. Its advantages include better sample quality, fewer unsatisfactory results, and the ability to test for multiple conditions from a single sample.
