Lippmann, Walter

Walter Lippmann (1889–1974) was an influential American journalist and political thinker. He is best known for analyzing the role of media and public opinion in democracy. Lippmann argued that the average citizen doesn't have the time or resources to fully understand complex issues, so they rely on simplified mental images, shaped largely by media, to form opinions. He emphasized that a well-informed, specialized class of experts and journalists is necessary to effectively guide public understanding.
