lipoprotein metabolism
Lipoprotein metabolism involves the transport of fats like cholesterol and triglycerides through the bloodstream. The liver produces lipoproteins that carry these fats to various tissues for energy, storage, or use. After delivering their cargo, remnants are taken back by the liver for recycling or disposal. Different types, such as LDL (low-density lipoprotein) and HDL (high-density lipoprotein), have distinct roles: LDL delivers cholesterol to cells, while HDL helps remove excess cholesterol from tissues and arteries, returning it to the liver. This process maintains balanced fat levels, essential for healthy cell function and cardiovascular health.
