Linocut

Linocut is a printmaking technique where an artist carves into a sheet of linoleum, a type of soft, durable material. The artist shapes the design by removing areas that they want to remain white or light, leaving the raised surface to be inked. Ink is applied to the raised areas with a roller, then pressed onto paper or fabric to create a mirror-image print. This method allows for bold, graphic images with strong contrast, and is appreciated for its simplicity, versatility, and ability to produce multiple identical prints.
