Linnaean system
The Linnaean system is a method for classifying and naming living organisms, created by Carl Linnaeus. It organizes species into hierarchical categories: kingdom, phylum (or division), class, order, family, genus, and species. Each organism has a two-part Latin name (binomial nomenclature), with the genus capitalized and the species lowercase (e.g., Homo sapiens). This system helps scientists communicate clearly about plant and animal diversity by providing a standardized structure for identification and classification. It emphasizes relationships between organisms, grouping similar species together within broader categories.
