Lines and Geoglyphs of Nazca and Pampas de Jumana
The Lines and Geoglyphs of Nazca and Pampas de Jumana are large, intricate designs etched into the desert surface of southern Peru. Created by removing surface stones to reveal lighter soil underneath, these geoglyphs include straight lines, geometric shapes, and images of animals, plants, and humanoid figures. Built by the ancient Nazca culture around 500 BCE to 500 CE, their purpose remains debated, but they may have held religious or astronomical significance. These enormous artworks are best appreciated from the air and continue to fascinate archaeologists and visitors alike.
