Linear Induction Motor

A Linear Induction Motor (LIM) is a type of electric motor that produces motion in a straight line rather than rotation. It works by using electromagnetic forces: when alternating current flows through coils in the stator (fixed part), it creates a moving magnetic field. This field induces a current in the conductive part called the secondary, which is placed directly on the moving object. The interaction between the magnetic field and the induced current generates a force that pushes the object forward in a straight line. LIMs are used in applications like transportation (e.g., maglev trains), material handling, and industrial processes.
