Lincoln's Cabinet

Lincoln’s Cabinet was a group of senior advisors and department heads who helped him run the U.S. government during the Civil War. It included leaders like the Secretary of State (William Seward), who handled foreign affairs; the Secretary of War (Edwin Stanton), responsible for the military; and the Treasury Secretary (Salmon P. Chase), managing the economy and finances. These officials provided counsel and carried out presidential decisions, working together to preserve the Union and end slavery. The Cabinet was an essential team, balancing different perspectives and expertise during a challenging period in American history.
