Lincoln Highway

The Lincoln Highway was one of the first major transcontinental roads in the United States, established in 1913 to connect New York City to San Francisco. It spans approximately 3,400 miles, facilitating transportation, commerce, and travel across the country. Originally promoted by automobile advocates, it helped shape America’s road infrastructure and encouraged the rise of automobile culture. Today, while the original route has been divided into various highways, the Lincoln Highway remains a historic symbol of early American road development and the country’s expansion westward.
