Lighthouse of Alexandria
The Lighthouse of Alexandria, also known as the Pharos, was a towering lighthouse built around 280 BCE on the island of Pharos in Egypt. It served as a navigational aid for sailors approaching the busy port of Alexandria, guiding ships safely to harbor. Standing approximately 100 meters tall, it was one of the tallest man-made structures of its time and featured a fire at the top to produce a guiding light. The lighthouse also symbolized Alexandria’s wealth and technological innovation. It was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World but eventually fell into ruin due to earthquakes over centuries.
