Life and Death
Life and death can be understood in terms of substance and essence. Substance refers to the tangible, physical aspects of beings, like cells and organs, while essence pertains to the qualities that define a being's identity, such as consciousness and experiences. Life is characterized by growth, interaction, and the ability to adapt, driven by its essence. Death signifies the end of life, where the substance decomposes, but the essence—memories, impact, and legacy—can persist in the thoughts of others. Thus, while physical existence ends, the essence of a life can continue to influence and resonate with the living.
