Lichen Planus

Lichen planus is a chronic, inflammatory condition that affects the skin and mucous membranes, such as the inside of the mouth. It causes purple, flat-topped bumps with a shiny appearance and can lead to itching, soreness, or discomfort. The exact cause isn’t fully understood, but it is believed to involve an immune system response where the body mistakenly attacks its own cells. Lichen planus can also appear as lacy white patterns or sores. While it often resolves on its own over time, treatment may be needed to manage symptoms and prevent complications.
