Liberal Unionism

Liberal Unionism was a political movement in Scotland during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It aimed to unify Liberal politicians and supporters to oppose Irish Home Rule and strengthen the connection with the United Kingdom. By emphasizing loyalty to the British Parliament and advocating for moderate reforms, Liberal Unionists distinguished themselves from more radical Liberals who supported greater autonomy for Ireland. Eventually, they merged with the Conservative Party, creating the Conservative and Unionist Party, to present a united front against Irish independence and preserve the political status quo in Britain.
