LGBTQ+ Rights in the Military
LGBTQ+ rights in the military refer to the acceptance and inclusion of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer individuals in armed forces. Historically, many militaries had policies that discriminated against LGBTQ+ service members, often resulting in their discharge. Over time, many countries have made significant strides towards equality, including the repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" in the U.S. in 2011, which allowed openly gay service. Today, efforts continue to ensure all service members are treated fairly and with respect, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, promoting a diverse and inclusive military environment.
