Leyte Gulf

The Battle of Leyte Gulf, fought in October 1944, was one of World War II’s largest naval battles, occurring near the Philippines. It involved the Allied forces, mainly the United States, attacking the Japanese fleet to retake the Philippines and cut off Japan’s supply lines. The battle included several separate engagements over several days, featuring aircraft carriers, battleships, and cruiser ships. The Japanese aimed to defend their territory but suffered a decisive defeat, which significantly weakened their naval power and contributed to the eventual Allied victory in the Pacific. It was a turning point in the Pacific War.
