Discovered in 1831 on the Isle of Lewis in Scotland, they are believed to have been created in Norway or medieval Europe. Renowned for their detailed craftsmanship, the chessmen depict kings, queens, bishops, and warriors, providing a glimpse into medieval life and culture. They are considered one of the most significant archaeological discoveries related to medieval chess and art, and are now housed in museums worldwide as iconic medieval artifacts.
