Lewis and Clark

Lewis and Clark were explorers commissioned by President Thomas Jefferson in 1804 to chart the newly acquired Louisiana Territory and find a practical route to the Pacific Ocean. Led by Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, they traveled over 8,000 miles westward, navigating uncharted lands, interacting with Indigenous tribes, and documenting new plants and animals. Their expedition, known as the Corps of Discovery, significantly expanded geographic and scientific knowledge of North America, paving the way for westward expansion and settlement. Their journey is considered a landmark event in American exploration and development.
