It was a religious community where monks dedicated their lives to prayer, study, and communal living under the Benedictine tradition. The priory played an important role in local religion and economy, receiving land and donations. Over centuries, it expanded, but was dissolved in 1537 during the English Reformation, leading to its decline and dissolution.
